EXPERTISE:

Represents a variety of businesses in a wide range of intellectual property issues.

Prepares and prosecutes U.S. and international patent applications in a variety of technologies, including herbal therapeutic formulations, biotechnological diagnostic instruments, business methods, software-driven educational processes, and soil and groundwater remediation systems.

Represented hundreds of local, national and international businesses in acquiring and protecting U.S. and international trademark rights in proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Advised a wide range of clients, from start-up companies to global franchisors and direct sellers, on U.S. and foreign patent, trademark and copyright acquisition and enforcement strategies.

Managed intellectual property due diligence in several multi-million dollar acquisitions involving complex intellectual property transfers and licensing issues.

Negotiated and drafted patent, technology, trade secret, copyright, domain name and trademark licenses, purchase agreements, assignments and SaaS agreements.

Conducted trademark clearance, patentability and freedom to operate searches and provided opinions with respect to same.

Participated and consulted in litigation and pre-litigation disputes regarding patent, trademark and copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation for both plaintiff and defendant clients.

Successfully represented and advised clients in acquiring domain names through proceedings under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.

Managed foreign intellectual property assets of international clients and worked closely with local counsel in procuring rights and strategic planning.

Brent is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

CAREER:

After graduating from the University of Utah, Brent spent two and a half years working as a quality control chemist for an international calcium carbonate mining company.

Brent studied patent, trademark and trade secret law at the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire.
