Chris joined Jones Waldo in 2018.  His practice includes various aspects of commercial and intellectual property litigation, and business and real estate counseling.  His civil litigation practice focuses on intellectual property litigation (patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets), general business litigation and real property related issues. He has substantial trial experience in both state and federal courts.  Chris also advises clients with respect to intellectual property protection and counseling, corporate issues, and contract law (including various software, technology, vendor, and other sales related agreements).

Chris has successfully represented clients of all sizes, from Fortune 500 companies to start-ups and individuals, from a variety of industries. He values collaboratively working with clients to establish and achieve goals and to resolve disputes.  Chris effectively leverages his diverse background and experience to counsel clients.  

Prior to joining Jones Waldo, Chris worked as an associate at Holland & Hart, LLP in Salt Lake City, Utah and in the Boston, Massachusetts office of Fish & Richardson P.C. His business experience includes working as a national sales account executive at Balboa Capital Corporation and as an entrepreneur at the Ball-Boy Company.

 

Representative Cases:

Represents chemical manufacturer in breach of contract, fraud, trade secret misappropriation, and copyright infringement litigation.

Represents casino gaming developer in patent litigation and at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board related to electronic slot machines. Successfully invalidated four asserted patents according to 35 U.S.C. §§ 101 and 112(6).

Provides in-house counsel services to a growing software company.

Provides in-house counsel and lead trial litigation representation to a teleradiology practice.

Represents emerging growth business in M&A transaction.

Represents publicly traded non-bank health savings management company in intellectual property matters.

Represented showerhead manufacturer in patent, trademark, and false advertising litigation.

Represents medical group in contractual debt collection litigation.

Represented an original equipment manufacturer in patent, trade secret, and trademark litigation involving equipment wash pads and aircraft wash systems. Case resulted in a favorable jury verdict and an over $5M damage award.

Represented an American petroleum and natural gas exploration and production company in patent litigation. Case resulted in a favorable verdict finding the asserted patent was unenforceable due to inequitable conduct.

Represented casino gaming designer and manufacturers in patent litigation and at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board related to table games.

Represented company in patent, copyright, and trade secret litigation involving teleradiology software and systems.

Represented firearms manufacturer in patent and trade secret litigation involving a rotary magazine for a firearm.

Represented mobile app company specializing in local search and discovery services in patent litigation involving method of providing contact information.

Represented one of the largest public multi-national computer software and services manufacturers and one of the largest domestic private computer technology companies in patent litigation involving selection-based search technology.

Represented one of the largest public multi-national computer software and services manufacturers in multiple patent actions involving desktop and mobile software applications.

Represented two Fortune 500 companies, one of the largest retail bookseller companies, and discount variety retail chain in patent litigation involving sales automation tools and systems.
